In this first stage, the catalogue focuses on the modern and contemporary architecture designed and built between 1832 –year of construction of the first industrial chimney in Barcelona that we establish as the beginning of modernity– until today.
The project is born to make the architecture more accessible both to professionals and to the citizens through a website that is going to be updated and extended. Contemporary works of greater general interest will be incorporated, always with a necessary historical perspective, while gradually adding works from our past, with the ambitious objective of understanding a greater documented period.
The collection feeds from multiple sources, mainly from the generosity of architectural and photographic studios, as well as the large amount of excellent historical and reference editorial projects, such as architectural guides, magazines, monographs and other publications. It also takes into consideration all the reference sources from the various branches and associated entities with the COAC and other collaborating entities related to the architectural and design fields, in its maximum spectrum.
Special mention should be made of the incorporation of vast documentation from the COAC Historical Archive which, thanks to its documental richness, provides a large amount of valuable –and in some cases unpublished– graphic documentation.
The rigour and criteria for selection of the works has been stablished by a Documental Commission, formed by the COAC’s Culture Spokesperson, the director of the COAC Historical Archive, the directors of the COAC Digital Archive, and professionals and other external experts from all the territorial sections that look after to offer a transversal view of the current and past architectural landscape around the territory.
The determination of this project is to become the largest digital collection about Catalan architecture; a key tool of exemplar information and documentation about architecture, which turns into a local and international referent, for the way to explain and show the architectural heritage of a territory.

Masia Empordà

Es tracta d’una masia situada als afores d’un poble típic empordanès, emplaçada en el punt en què el poble es dissemina i les cases deixen de ser adossades per convertir-se en masies rodejades de camps. El primer acostament va ser entendre el funcionament d’una casa de tres plantes que sumava incomptables estances i on s’alternaven espais amb un passat agrícola amb altres d’ús domèstic. En aquestes condicions, el cor de la casa era l’espai més marginal i llòbrec de tot el conjunt. La principal intervenció sorgeix d’esponjar el volum aprofitant un pati existent en planta baixa i obrint-ne un de nou de generoses dimensions a la segona. Aquests espais contigus entre sí, es convertiran en el distribuïdor central de la casa i en la piscina. Es deixa l’estructura mural vista de tota la casa netejant-la d’envans i es connecten les estances entre sí, aconseguint que totes tinguin relació amb l’exterior. S’afegeixen noves circulacions amb la voluntat de potenciar el caràcter laberíntic de la casa, aportant una complexitat que, paradoxalment, facilita l’ús de l’habitatge. Tant l’estructura metàl·lica com les noves portes i finestres es pinten de color bordeus per a que s’identifiqui fàcilment la intervenció en la preexistència. Els volums de pedra i color blanc trencat busquen una imatge neutra on els materials puguin jugar un paper crucial en la construcció dels espais. D’aquesta manera, la rajola vidriada de color marró és el fil conductor que acompanya l’habitant en tot moment. Els terres es recuperen aprofitant l’antiga rajola vermella, en la qual la petjada del temps és visible, en contrast amb el pulcre reflex de la nova ceràmica. El resultat és una casa amb infinitat de salons, menjadors i habitacions on la família i els seus freqüents convidats poden habitar sense sentir la necessitat d’abandonar l’interior. El paisatge empordanès s’aboca a les finestres, mentre que l’interior s’obre a un laberint de diferents estances i patis de llum tamisada. -

Habitatge entre mitgeres situat a la Tallada, un petit poble típic de l’Empordà. El volum de la casa a rehabilitar havia patit canvis i ampliacions que donaven al conjunt un peculiar aspecte de torre. El projecte ha perseguit potenciar aquest caràcter vertical de la casa que ens semblava summament atractiu en l’entorn. Des de l’entrada comença l’ascens a través d’escalinates i escales que van donant accés a les diferents estances fins a arribar a la piscina, que és el punt més alt de la casa. Alguns dels forats originals del volum superior tenien una proporció allargada i acabaven en arcs de mig punt, tipologia habitual en moltes cases de poble. Es va decidir copiar aquest patró i repetir-lo en tota la planta superior, tant en portes i finestres com en passos entre estances. La façana principal també participa d’aquest llenguatge, mostrant a l’exterior la seqüència d’espais que s’apilen a l’interior de l’habitatge a través d’un gran forat vertical. La rajola ceràmica de color marró és el fil conductor que acompanya l’habitant en tot moment. Cada habitacle es dissenya com una peça autònoma i té el seu propi mobiliari construït en obra i revestit de ceràmica de 13x13. La decisió de cobrir tots els plans horitzontals amb aquesta peça genera extensos mantells marrons tornassolats que se superposen a través de les diferents diagonals visuals. Els terres es reinterpreten mitjançant ceràmica quadrada de color vermell, en la qual el traç del temps es farà visible, en contrast amb el pulcre reflex de la nova ceràmica brillant.700 m2 Apartment for a Bachelor

The first time we visited this space, the sewing machines were still in place. It was a single open space of approximately 10x70m intended for a tailoring workshop that had closed its doors. The task was to transform the workshop into a single-person home. In addition, the program also included a study area and an art creation workshop. Two main objectives were pursued. On the one hand, to define spaces of an accessible, human scale, in the context of a large industrial unit. On the other hand, as a counterpoint, the perception of being in a space of a singular character is never lost. As a result of these two objectives, the partitioning of the open space by means of partitions was ruled out. Thus, the project proposes a series of dividers of different character that articulate the space according to the program’s needs. These independent objects never meet the perimeter walls or the ceiling, preserving the visual continuity of the original open space. In addition, the perimeter of the nave has been manipulated in the areas of contact with the outside, creating two large dividing elements that introduce air, light and vegetation: the terrace and the garden. With this compartmentalisation strategy we get a sequence of spaces whose privacy increases as you move into the interior of the home. The artistic creation workshop area is located at the entrance. Then there is the living room and the kitchen, and finally the most private area of the house. It was important to achieve a gathering atmosphere in the latter area, without the bedroom and bathroom becoming boxes isolated from the rest. The raised platform brings the user closer to the ceiling, giving him the feeling of being in a space of a smaller scale, which in turn dominates the rest. The project is very simple on a material level. A two-color palette is used, applying each colour in two textures.Can Migris

El terreny on actuem és una parcel·la plana i allargada de 7.000m2 destinada al cultiu, situada als afores de Santa Margarida de Montbui. La parcel·la comptava inicialment amb una edificació d’ús agrícola en estat de ruïna que ens van encarregar de transformar en habitatge. La normativa, que qualificava la construcció preexistent com a masia, va fer que s’hagués de respectar la volumetria original, així com la posició dels forats en les façanes. El volum tenia una relació directa amb l’entorn, sense preàmbuls en la transició des del camp cap a l’interior. El canvi de programa exigia definir un entorn immediat de l’habitatge més acotat i protegit respecte a una plana totalment oberta, per la qual cosa es va excavar 1m fins la cota de terrassa que dóna accés a l’habitatge i la comunica amb la resta de la urbanització exterior, que defineix un paisatge artificial que fa de mediador entre la casa i el camp. El programa funcional es desenvolupa mitjançant plataformes esglaonades que orbiten al voltant d’un nucli central portant. Aquest nucli, que actua com un gran pilar, conté les instal·lacions i escales, relacionant totes les estances de la casa. La centralitat d’aquest pilar permet que els forjats metàl·lics salvin llums més petites i, per tant, tinguin un gruix menor, accentuant el contrast entre el pes d’allò que suporta i la lleugeresa d’allò que és suportat. La materialitat de la casa aprofundeix en aquesta voluntat de contrast, de tal manera que els elements portants principals són rugosos, pesats i grollers, mentre que els elements secundaris i particions interiors tenen superfícies més llises, construïdes amb estructura lleugera. La intervenció compta amb una paleta cromàtica de tons terrossos que busca relacionar-se amb l’entorn. L’habitatge es desenvolupa en altura com una successió d’entre-plantes d’altura variable que ascendeix des de les zones comuns cap als dormitoris, acabant el seu recorregut en un balcó que es projecta cap als camps de cereal.Premis d’Arquitectura de les Comarques de Girona

La parcel·la, inicialment ocupada per una antiga casa entre mitgeres en estat de ruïna, està situada al casc antic medieval de la petita localitat empordanesa. S’ha decidit mantenir el murs de pedra originals i inserir el nou volum enretirant-los respecte a aquests. La casa se separa també de la mitgera veïna en planta baixa per a cedir un nou passatge al poble que connecta el carrer Major amb la muralla medieval. S’ha aprofitat aquest gest per a situar l’entrada a la casa. D’aquesta manera, el passatge és també un hall d’accés cobert on, a més, es pot aparcar la bici o emmagatzemar llenya. La zona de nit en planta baixa es connecta a les zones comuns de planta primera a través d’una escala central de cargol, el màstil de la qual s’allarga fins a la coberta per a aguantar-la.La Floresta Dwelling

Halfway between Barcelona and Sant Cugat, La Floresta is a low-density residential neighbourhood nestled in the Serra de Collserola. A disorderly constellation of small houses dots the hills covered with abundant vegetation. La Floresta has a place for dirt and asphalt roads, as well as recently built houses and those self-built in the 1950s. The house precisely replaces a small self-built building in the 60s by the parents of the clients, which was demolished due to the serious pathologies it presented. The plot has a large unevenness, and the project uses the small esplanade on which the previous house was located as a base. The project is developed on two levels and is conceived as a family meeting space, with an open ground floor and three sleeping rooms on the first floor. The openings on the façades seek to enhance the house's relationship with the plot and the forest, and the upper floor rotates with respect to the lower one defining a series of skylights and small terraces, leaving, in turn, space for the roofs of the nearest trees approach the façade. The interior of the house is very simple, and it is the material of the structure itself that defines the main finishes, with raw wood on the walls and shiny wood on the floor, looking for the outside to be part of the inside in the form of a reflex.FAD Award
