About

In this first stage, the catalogue focuses on the modern and contemporary architecture designed and built between 1832 –year of construction of the first industrial chimney in Barcelona that we establish as the beginning of modernity– until today.

The project is born to make the architecture more accessible both to professionals and to the citizens through a website that is going to be updated and extended. Contemporary works of greater general interest will be incorporated, always with a necessary historical perspective, while gradually adding works from our past, with the ambitious objective of understanding a greater documented period.

The collection feeds from multiple sources, mainly from the generosity of architectural and photographic studios, as well as the large amount of excellent historical and reference editorial projects, such as architectural guides, magazines, monographs and other publications. It also takes into consideration all the reference sources from the various branches and associated entities with the COAC and other collaborating entities related to the architectural and design fields, in its maximum spectrum.

Special mention should be made of the incorporation of vast documentation from the COAC Historical Archive which, thanks to its documental richness, provides a large amount of valuable –and in some cases unpublished– graphic documentation.

The rigour and criteria for selection of the works has been stablished by a Documental Commission, formed by the COAC’s Culture Spokesperson, the director of the COAC Historical Archive, the directors of the COAC Digital Archive, and professionals and other external experts from all the territorial sections that look after to offer a transversal view of the current and past architectural landscape around the territory.

The determination of this project is to become the largest digital collection about Catalan architecture; a key tool of exemplar information and documentation about architecture, which turns into a local and international referent, for the way to explain and show the architectural heritage of a territory.

La peculiar configuració de la casa respon a les condicions desfavorables del solar, que dóna al carrer en la seva dimensió més gran i al mar en la més petita. Garcés adopta un criteri compositiu format per mòduls equivalents suportats per pilastres allargades, un sistema que permet un creixement molt lliure tant en amplària com en fondària i en alçària. Així, la casa esdevé un conjunt de peces agregades que formen una infraestructura arquitectònica molt poderosa, que ha de permetre que els àmbits més propis de la vida domèstica s’hi inscriguin amb una gran versatilitat. A la banda del carrer, la casa adopta un aspecte urbà, amb una façana plana, si bé modulada i foradada irregularment. El sistema d’agregacions arriba a la vora del mar amb un gran porxo de doble alçària que marca el final de la casa. Els espais exteriors s’entenen com una part del mateix sistema, que pot acollir programes i organitzacions ben variats.

La casa i el terreny enjardinat lliure han estat concebuts com una unitat global en la que les estances de la casa són les zones en ombra del solar.

Un volum lineal ofereix una façana predominantment tancada a l’orientació nord i a la proximitat d’edificis veïns.

A aquesta barra li neixen, de manera modular i sistemàtica, altres cossos ortogonals de longitud variable que s’emmotllen amb llibertat a la forma triangular del solar.

Es resol en dues plantes la totalitat del programa: Sales d’estar, menjador-cuina, dormitori suite principal, altres dormitoris, porxos, terrasses, pèrgoles i solàrium.

Una espina central allotja en el seu interior l’escala lineal i agrupa en la seva perifèria armaris i llars de foc.

Les terrasses davanteres de fusta s’estenen cap el mar fins a la línia de delimitació terrestre marítima.

Elements complementaris annexos són el pavelló de bany turc, jacuzzi exterior i màquines. Un magatzem en forma de mitja lluna completa les edificacions i contribueix a precisar els espais del jardí.

Els materials d’acabat utilitzats són: Estucs tant en parets interiors com exteriors i aquests amb coronació de pedra. En planta baixa paviments de pedra, en planta primera de fusta i tancaments de fusta natural de qualitat.
La superfície del solar és de 3.000 m². La superfície construïda és de 1.150 m² més 630 m² de terrasses i solàrium.
