About

In this first stage, the catalogue focuses on the modern and contemporary architecture designed and built between 1832 –year of construction of the first industrial chimney in Barcelona that we establish as the beginning of modernity– until today.

The project is born to make the architecture more accessible both to professionals and to the citizens through a website that is going to be updated and extended. Contemporary works of greater general interest will be incorporated, always with a necessary historical perspective, while gradually adding works from our past, with the ambitious objective of understanding a greater documented period.

The collection feeds from multiple sources, mainly from the generosity of architectural and photographic studios, as well as the large amount of excellent historical and reference editorial projects, such as architectural guides, magazines, monographs and other publications. It also takes into consideration all the reference sources from the various branches and associated entities with the COAC and other collaborating entities related to the architectural and design fields, in its maximum spectrum.

Special mention should be made of the incorporation of vast documentation from the COAC Historical Archive which, thanks to its documental richness, provides a large amount of valuable –and in some cases unpublished– graphic documentation.

The rigour and criteria for selection of the works has been stablished by a Documental Commission, formed by the COAC’s Culture Spokesperson, the director of the COAC Historical Archive, the directors of the COAC Digital Archive, and professionals and other external experts from all the territorial sections that look after to offer a transversal view of the current and past architectural landscape around the territory.

The determination of this project is to become the largest digital collection about Catalan architecture; a key tool of exemplar information and documentation about architecture, which turns into a local and international referent, for the way to explain and show the architectural heritage of a territory.

Ha estat reconegut amb diversos premis per la seva trajectòria professional.

  1. La Maquinista Sports Track

    La Maquinista Sports Track

    The project is developed inside the La Maquinista school complex, a widely used facility in the Barceloneta district. Coverage and adaptation of the existing sports court, improvement of the changing room building and modification and segregation of the accesses to the different educational centres and the sports facility have been carried out. The access has been moved to a new public entrance space that incorporates and highlights the remains of industrial machinery from the old La Maquinista Terrestre i Marítima factory, an old railway material factory dating from the late 19th century. In this way, the chimney and the overhead crane, which until now were inside the facilities, now become part of the public space. Inside the sports facility you can see an old tank recovered from the subsoil during the foundation work of the project. The project contemplates the improvement of the accesses to the La Maquinista school complex, the adaptation of the changing room building and the coverage of the track. To this end, a new access has been created with a partitioning system based on fences and an entrance space where we find the surveillance booth and the access lobby to the changing rooms. The core of the action is the coverage of the existing sports court and its adaptation to current sports regulations. The dimensions of the existing sports court to be covered have been expanded to reach the dimensions of a multi-sports court (PP2 according to standards defined in 2005 and court double sports centre POL2 according to the Catalan Sports Council) of 44 × 22 metres, and the slope of the track has been modified up to 2% to adapt it to regulations. Finally, the new track has been dimensioned according to the measures required by the Catalan Sports Council, for a PAV-2 double sports pavilion (44×23 mts.), to enable a future track closure project. The runway cover system is based on laminated timber frames, including the full web beam and the pillars. The pillars of the main structure are 24×40, while the pillars of the secondary structure are 15×30. The formation of the roof is carried out with the Finnforest Ripper system, made up of a set of microlaminated wooden belts, a top counter, and a top finish with a waterproof PVC sheet. The stability of the structure relies on the end frames that have a different design. The coverage system provided for in the project will comply with the regulations required for a light and exterior roof. The coverage of the sports court, the porch that joins it with the changing rooms and the control and access booth, is made with a prefabricated floor with microlaminated wood joists and chipboard, Rippa system from Finnforest. In the case of the track skylights, this slab is covered at the bottom with another chipboard, so that a smooth surface reflecting light is left. These have a 45º inclination in anticipation of a future location of photovoltaic panels on the roof of the building located on the 3 skylights with fixings on the iron roof, occupying an approximate area of 270 m2. A space is provided for the connection to the facilities cabinet for access to the enclosure. The slope of the roof is 2% and is given by the structure of the main porticos, carrying the water towards the galvanised sheet gutters located on the long sides. There is a galvanized steel downspout for each portico, supported on the intermediate pillar. The access booth is resolved with a second chipboard placed on battens, which forms the slope so that all the edges are horizontal. The waterproofing is done with PVC-P sheet reinforced with polyester mesh, type alkorPLAN F 35276, 1.5 mm. thick, placed on geotextile, and welded on a co-laminated plate from the same company on all edges. The visible aspect of this solution is given using different colours for each of the waterproofing bands, taking advantage of the entire range of greys of the standard manufacturing colours. To highlight the effect, extruded PVC profiles will be placed on top of the joints, in the direction of the slope. We will also find this finish in the entrance porches and access to the track, giving a pleasant image to the neighbourhood.
