Intro

About

In this first stage, the catalogue focuses on the modern and contemporary architecture designed and built between 1832 –year of construction of the first industrial chimney in Barcelona that we establish as the beginning of modernity– until today.

The project is born to make the architecture more accessible both to professionals and to the citizens through a website that is going to be updated and extended. Contemporary works of greater general interest will be incorporated, always with a necessary historical perspective, while gradually adding works from our past, with the ambitious objective of understanding a greater documented period.

The collection feeds from multiple sources, mainly from the generosity of architectural and photographic studios, as well as the large amount of excellent historical and reference editorial projects, such as architectural guides, magazines, monographs and other publications. It also takes into consideration all the reference sources from the various branches and associated entities with the COAC and other collaborating entities related to the architectural and design fields, in its maximum spectrum.

Special mention should be made of the incorporation of vast documentation from the COAC Historical Archive which, thanks to its documental richness, provides a large amount of valuable –and in some cases unpublished– graphic documentation.

The rigour and criteria for selection of the works has been stablished by a Documental Commission, formed by the COAC’s Culture Spokesperson, the director of the COAC Historical Archive, the directors of the COAC Digital Archive, and professionals and other external experts from all the territorial sections that look after to offer a transversal view of the current and past architectural landscape around the territory.

The determination of this project is to become the largest digital collection about Catalan architecture; a key tool of exemplar information and documentation about architecture, which turns into a local and international referent, for the way to explain and show the architectural heritage of a territory.

  1. Àurea Cuadrado Skate Park Gardens

Scob Arquitectura i Paisatge, Oscar Blasco, Sergi Carulla

    Àurea Cuadrado Skate Park Gardens

The program proposes this new skatepark as a skating square. The project works within the limits of the area of action, taking advantage of the changes in level and the containment of the slopes, to place all the skateable elements. These are configured as walls, inclined planes, stairs, bleachers, platforms, benches, railings, etc., which relate to each other with a common language, and not as isolated objects. The main objective has been to reverse the usual image of these spaces associated with the large hard elements imposed in an open space without shadows, making the surrounding vegetation have continuity and direct contact with the new installation.
  2. Mar Bella Skate Park

Scob Arquitectura i Paisatge, Oscar Blasco, Sergi Carulla

    Mar Bella Skate Park

The program defines a multi-purpose skating area with different areas and levels of difficulty: a street area at the top that will function as a gateway, a snake run that will allow long-distance skating, and finally an area with three pools. The skatepark is thought of as a new artificial topography, like a game of dunes that adapts to the terrain and takes advantage of its unevenness towards the sea, following the strategy of Parc del Poble Nou. A good relationship of continuity with the existing vegetation and the routes that reach and delimit the intervention area is also sought.
  3. Aureà Cuadrado Urban Sports Park

Scob Arquitectura i Paisatge, Oscar Blasco, Sergi Carulla

    Aureà Cuadrado Urban Sports Park

In most cities, skateparks continue to be built on the outskirts. The integration of these facilities into their environment is often non-existent, usually showing itself as an isolated whole. Aureà Cuadrado Urban Sports Park is changing this dynamic to become a new contemporary alternative to public space. The intervention is conceived entirely as a square destined for skating. The initial program calls for the reproduction of different skatable elements of streets and squares in the city of Barcelona. The proposal works with the limits of the scope of action, taking advantage of the changes of level and the containment of the slopes to place all these skatable elements, relating them to each other following a sequence and a common language. The interior routes that previously existed on the site are respected, the existing vegetation is brought inland and the two materials already existing on the site are worked on with the intention of establishing a strong link of continuity with the landscape that surrounds it.
  4. Nou Barris Skate Park

Scob Arquitectura i Paisatge, Oscar Blasco, Sergi Carulla

    Nou Barris Skate Park

The new skatepark in Nou Barris is located on Ronda de Dalt’s roof, which is one of the major road infrastructures in Barcelona. It is a refurbishment of an old skate track of which only a part was used. In a process of citizen participation, we worked with users and local associations in order to achieve a track adapted to their needs. The skatepark incorporates three successive bowls (rescuing the legendary hellcurving), a part dedicated to street skateboarding with multiple elements and a snake run area.
