About

In this first stage, the catalogue focuses on the modern and contemporary architecture designed and built between 1832 –year of construction of the first industrial chimney in Barcelona that we establish as the beginning of modernity– until today.

The project is born to make the architecture more accessible both to professionals and to the citizens through a website that is going to be updated and extended. Contemporary works of greater general interest will be incorporated, always with a necessary historical perspective, while gradually adding works from our past, with the ambitious objective of understanding a greater documented period.

The collection feeds from multiple sources, mainly from the generosity of architectural and photographic studios, as well as the large amount of excellent historical and reference editorial projects, such as architectural guides, magazines, monographs and other publications. It also takes into consideration all the reference sources from the various branches and associated entities with the COAC and other collaborating entities related to the architectural and design fields, in its maximum spectrum.

Special mention should be made of the incorporation of vast documentation from the COAC Historical Archive which, thanks to its documental richness, provides a large amount of valuable –and in some cases unpublished– graphic documentation.

The rigour and criteria for selection of the works has been stablished by a Documental Commission, formed by the COAC’s Culture Spokesperson, the director of the COAC Historical Archive, the directors of the COAC Digital Archive, and professionals and other external experts from all the territorial sections that look after to offer a transversal view of the current and past architectural landscape around the territory.

The determination of this project is to become the largest digital collection about Catalan architecture; a key tool of exemplar information and documentation about architecture, which turns into a local and international referent, for the way to explain and show the architectural heritage of a territory.

L'antiga fàbrica de Can Surís va ser construïda als voltants del 1897 i es troba inclosa en el Catàleg de Protecció del Patrimoni Arquitectònic de Cornellà de Llobregat, pel seu valor històric i tipològic. Està situat a la Plaça de Can Surís, s/n de Cornellà de Llobregat, al costat de la antiga carretera que unia els nuclis de Cornellà de Llobregat i Sant Joan Despí, en una zona de recent urbanització i remodelació, amb el pas del nou TramBaix.

L’edifici es trobava desocupat i abandonat, buit de qualsevol tipus d’instal·lacions preexistents, i en procés de degradació accelerada per la falta de manteniment.

Les actuacions s'han realitzat en 3 fases entre els anys 2001 i el 2009.

La primera fase va contemplar la rehabilitació integral d’una part de l’estructura, de les façanes i de la coberta, i la reforma d’una altra part de l’estructura, per a destinar-ho a equipament d’ús públic però sense un programa específic clar. Aquest primer projecte va incloure uns nous espais de comunicació vertical -escala principal, ascensors i d’emergència-, serveis i instal·lacions per un programa no determinat, però que demanava un alt grau de flexibilitat a les diferents plantes.

La segona fase va desenvolupar el programa d'ús en les plantes baixa i primera, amb l'adequació interior necessària, així com el mobiliari fix específic.

El projecte contemplava la previsió dels espais necessaris per desenvolupar el programa del nou Centre d'Innovació ciutadà per a la Societat del Coneixement, en els seus apartats: socials de difusió-divulgació (planta baixa), politècnica d'aprenentatge-desenvolupament (planta primera) i finalment digital-media de realització-producció (planta segona) i que s'executaria en la tercera fase. Aquest programa demanava un alt grau de flexibilitat a les diferents plantes per poder-se adaptar en el temps a la introducció de novetats tecnològiques.

L'accés es va reforçar amb la construcció d’un porxo lineal a doble alçada adossat a la façana principal que permet una lectura més amable d’un edifici industrial, al temps que serveix de filtre entre el contenidor d’activitats i l’espai exterior d’accés i lleure.

Aquesta pèrgola construïda d'acer i vidre contrasta amb l'obra de fàbrica de maó massís i dona a l'edifici una nova imatge més contemporània, la seva col·locació reforça la lectura del edifici i dona resposta al nou ús al qual es destina.

L'accés dona al vestíbul que es desenvolupa en la triple alçada del edifici. D' aquesta manera en entrar es reconeix el caràcter d'edifici púJOSEP M. JULIÀ blic i s'entreveu la magnitud de les tres plantes de que consta el nou Centre.

La tercera fase de l'adequació de l'antiga fàbrica de Can Surís, va contemplar l’acabament de la rehabilitació integral de les plantes segona i sotacoberta, en quant a les divisions interiors, serveis, acabats, i totes les instal·lacions necessàries per a destinar-ho a l'ampliació de l'equipament d’ús públic Citilab-Cornellà. El projecte d'aquestes plantes superiors va desenvolupar el nou programa d'art digital en els seus apartats de realització i producció, i inclou 2 platós de diferents mides per a múltiples usos.
