About
In this first stage, the catalogue focuses on the modern and contemporary architecture designed and built between 1832 –year of construction of the first industrial chimney in Barcelona that we establish as the beginning of modernity– until today.
The project is born to make the architecture more accessible both to professionals and to the citizens through a website that is going to be updated and extended. Contemporary works of greater general interest will be incorporated, always with a necessary historical perspective, while gradually adding works from our past, with the ambitious objective of understanding a greater documented period.
The collection feeds from multiple sources, mainly from the generosity of architectural and photographic studios, as well as the large amount of excellent historical and reference editorial projects, such as architectural guides, magazines, monographs and other publications. It also takes into consideration all the reference sources from the various branches and associated entities with the COAC and other collaborating entities related to the architectural and design fields, in its maximum spectrum.
Special mention should be made of the incorporation of vast documentation from the COAC Historical Archive which, thanks to its documental richness, provides a large amount of valuable –and in some cases unpublished– graphic documentation.
The rigour and criteria for selection of the works has been stablished by a Documental Commission, formed by the COAC’s Culture Spokesperson, the director of the COAC Historical Archive, the directors of the COAC Digital Archive, and professionals and other external experts from all the territorial sections that look after to offer a transversal view of the current and past architectural landscape around the territory.
The determination of this project is to become the largest digital collection about Catalan architecture; a key tool of exemplar information and documentation about architecture, which turns into a local and international referent, for the way to explain and show the architectural heritage of a territory.

El conjunt el formen quatre elements idèntics, repetits de manera decalada. Aquesta solució permet una millor adaptació a la irregularitat de la parcel·la i, d’altra banda, obre més possibilitats a la concepció de cada habitatge. Cada motel adopta una forma de T i s’adossa contra la unitat veïna per mitjà d’una superfície mínima. L’accés té lloc pel punt d’unió dels dos braços de la T, on hi ha l’escala que du al pis superior, la qual cosa racionalitza les circulacions. El cos que allotja els dos dormitoris dels fills, col·locat transversalment, cobreix un porxo dotat d’una certa privacitat, que acull les activitats a l’aire lliure. El braç orientat a mar conté, a la planta primera, un estudi penjat sobre la sala d’estar. Després de l’experiència de la casa Agustí, Sostres es preocupa en aquest projecte de l’economia en l’estructura i els materials, de l’ordre en la geometria, de la llegibilitat dels volums i els tancaments, amb vista a un programa d’habitatge seriat.
Conjunto de cuatro viviendas en hilera en régimen de alquiler para el verano. Todas ellas son iguales, como si estuvieran construidas en serie, y están agrupadas de forma escalonada para dejar el máximo espacio para el jardín en fachada. El acceso en coche a los garajes se produce por detrás de la parcela; el acceso peatonal a las viviendas se realiza por el jardín delantero, de tal manera que las dos circulaciones quedan totalmente separadas. Las viviendas se desarrollan en dos plantas en forma de T, y su estructura es de muros portantes. En la planta baja se encuentra la zona de día y en la superior los dormitorios. Uno de los lados de la T de la planta superior se apoya sobre la casa vecina, dejando un porche en la planta baja que permite ver el jardín a través de la casa. En la sala de estar se crea un doble espacio que da al dormitorio principal, se abre al exterior por medio de una ventana a doble altura. El color constituye un elemento muy importante del proyecto; el blanco unitario mediterráneo es el color dominante, puntuado con ligeras notas de color para hacer visibles los elementos arquitectónicos, especialmente las carpinterías, que están compuestas de forma neoplástica y se han pintado de colores primarios, como los que utilizaba Johannes Pieter Oud en Holanda: las persianas de las casas de Torredembarra son amarillas y las carpinterías azules. La decoración se reserva a la naturaleza y al mobiliario.
