The headquarters of Caixa Sabadell Social Work takes up two buildings built by the architect Jeroni Martorell between 1908 and 1910 for the Sabadell Industrial School of Arts and Crafts.
The first phase proposes the renovation of the old machine room of the industrial school known as the "workshop of the seamstresses" characterised by its sawtooth industrial roof.
The project has the largest capacity spaces in this building: an exhibition hall and the new meeting room.
There are two large spaces: a newly created one, built eight meters below the old workshop without altering it, which is the new 16m wide event hall (4m wider than the building) with a capacity for 390 spectators. The other one which reforms the old workshops to turn them into an exhibition hall, recovering the zenithal lighting and the interior space of the "shed".
At the same time, a new entrance to the complex from the street is proposed, as well as a new hall located between the two buildings with a staircase that seeks to relate the two large spaces.
Few materials are used: continuous oil-finished European oak solid plank flooring throughout the building, white-painted plasterboard ceilings and vertical facings in the showroom, and acoustic panel cladding with natural maple veneer finish for the meeting room.
The okume wood plywood folding shutters regulate both the lighting and the relationship with the outside garden, allowing various configurations that respond to the different needs of the showroom.
