In this first stage, the catalogue focuses on the modern and contemporary architecture designed and built between 1832 –year of construction of the first industrial chimney in Barcelona that we establish as the beginning of modernity– until today.
The project is born to make the architecture more accessible both to professionals and to the citizens through a website that is going to be updated and extended. Contemporary works of greater general interest will be incorporated, always with a necessary historical perspective, while gradually adding works from our past, with the ambitious objective of understanding a greater documented period.
The collection feeds from multiple sources, mainly from the generosity of architectural and photographic studios, as well as the large amount of excellent historical and reference editorial projects, such as architectural guides, magazines, monographs and other publications. It also takes into consideration all the reference sources from the various branches and associated entities with the COAC and other collaborating entities related to the architectural and design fields, in its maximum spectrum.
Special mention should be made of the incorporation of vast documentation from the COAC Historical Archive which, thanks to its documental richness, provides a large amount of valuable –and in some cases unpublished– graphic documentation.
The rigour and criteria for selection of the works has been stablished by a Documental Commission, formed by the COAC’s Culture Spokesperson, the director of the COAC Historical Archive, the directors of the COAC Digital Archive, and professionals and other external experts from all the territorial sections that look after to offer a transversal view of the current and past architectural landscape around the territory.
The determination of this project is to become the largest digital collection about Catalan architecture; a key tool of exemplar information and documentation about architecture, which turns into a local and international referent, for the way to explain and show the architectural heritage of a territory.

Immaculada Dwellings

Es tracta d’una proposta unitària per a dos blocs separats, que tanquen una mateixa plaça i estan sotmesos a les mateixes condicions urbanístiques. Els habitatges adopten tipologies actuals, si bé les dues pells, l’anterior i la posterior, es configuren en relació amb el context: el límit del centre de la ciutat i, per tant, la façana de la Manresa històrica. Les façanes posteriors recuperen les galeries tradicionals, mentre que les del davant, d’acord amb la normativa vigent, adopten un ritme de finestres altes i estretes que permet articular el desnivell entre els dos blocs, entre les velles cases de banda i banda. -
Bosch i Jover Secondary School

El lloc d'aquesta reforma i extensió d'institut es troba al límit urbà d'Artés, una zona encara en procés de consolidació, on predominen els grans equipaments i els habitatges unifamiliars aïllats. El nou edifici es projecta com una extensió orgànica de l'escola original dels 1970s, de planta quadrada. El solar disponible era molt petit. Només després d'acabar-l'edifici es va annexar un solar per ampliar la zona esportiva. La decisió principal va consistir a situar tot el programa educatiu al nivell de la planta primera de l'edifici existent, deixant els nivells inferiors per al programa complementari: administració, menjador, gimnàs, etc. D'aquesta manera, s'optimitzen les comunicacions interiors entre els dos edificis i s'obté un únic organisme funcional. Un gran porxo obert uneix els dos edificis i els relaciona amb els camps de joc. A causa de la forma i situació del solar, el nou edifici té les seves façanes amb orientació est i oest, que no són les més aconsellables per a una escola. D'aquí la importància dels elements de protecció solar, que responen a la necessitat de control lumínic i alhora contribueixen a la imatge final de l'edifici. Estan més densament situats al costat oest, on es requereix més protecció, i menys en el costat Est. Aquesta diferència també reflecteix els diferents programes a cada costat: les aules estàndards, d'ús més prolongat, més nombroses i més petites, se situen a l’ est, mentre que les aules específiques, de major dimensió però ús més esporàdic, se situen a l’oest. La posició del programa genera una volumetria dual que respon a les diferents condicions del context: genera una façana contínua i oberta cap als camps, mentre que a la banda del carrer es fragmenta en volums d'una dimensió similar a les cases de davant i posant-se en relació amb l'antiga escola. -
Sabadell Primary Healthcare Centre

This Primary Healthcare Centre is located next to another existing municipal facility, being the north façade of Castelao Square. It takes the alignment and the general volumetry of the square to generate a coherent façade in the public space and reinterpret the porch of the existing building in a large overhang that facilitates the relationship between the interior and the exterior and between the equipment. One of the project’s main goals was the definition of the standard organisational type and to achieve a model of general application. The program is distributed over two floors that correspond to two parts differentiated in use and character: on the upper floor all the consultations and waiting areas are located; on the lower floor, access, emergencies and the rest of the program are established. Both landings can operate independently at different times. The regular distribution of the upper floor is dynamised and hierarchised by the irruption of the lighting and ventilation courtyards of the lower floor and the vertical cores, so that differentiated zones are generated that correspond to the different medical specialties. Despite this spatial classification of the plant, the transparency of the interior courtyards allows for a global perception and facilitates users' orientation. -

El solar on se situa l’escola es troba en un dels límits del nucli urbà, a tocar d’una zona residencial de nou creixement. El projecte opta per concentrar totes les funcions dins un bloc compacte molt allargat que construeix un carrer gairebé inexistent. La planta baixa restitueix l’horitzontal en un solar que, per la seva llargària, presenta uns dos metres de diferència de cota d’un extrem a l’altre. La façana principal ve determinada per la variació dels filtres que matisen l’entrada de la llum natural. Les peces d’ús comú se situen totes a l’extrem més alt, connectades al pati de jocs per una graderia destinada a activitats lúdiques. -
Diagonal Zero Zero

The position of the Diagonal Zero Zero Tower is exceptional because it is located at the start of the Diagonal, Barcelona’s main avenue, as well as being located on the border of the Forum’s larger areas by the sea. Tailored to house the Telefónica Group's corporate headquarters and its main global R&D departments, it is a contextual building with a symbiotic relationship with the environment. It is a trapezoidal prism, sharp and stylised, light and whitish in colour, which takes advantage of the shape of the solar diamond. Through the extra clear glass of the curtain wall, dynamic volumes that respond to the different specificities of the interior program are revealed, and they are related to the various heights of the nearby buildings. The standard office floors are open, taking advantage of the structural system of the tower: a central core of support and a perimeter structure along the façade allow a floor which has no pillars. -
Marta Mata Infant and Primary School

L’escola remata una urbanització d’unifamiliars assumint la seva condició d’edifici públic vertebrador i defineix una gran façana com final de l'eix central del barri, on se situa l'accés de primària. Els accessos de parvulari i primària se situen a diferent nivell aprofitant la topografia del lloc. El parvulari se situa a la cota inferior, amb un accés directe als patis interiors oberts, i l'accés a primària se situa una planta per sobre, on està el pati principal del centre. El programa s’organitza d'una manera molt compacta alliberant al màxim el solar, no molt gran. Els espais docents se situen a banda i banda del corredor central, que es puntua amb obertures que l’il·luminen i generen espais informals de relació. Tota la construcció s'industrialitza: estructura, panells, finestres i proteccions solars. El centre s’ha bastit amb rapidesa i un millor control dels acabats. Els panells de façana són un disseny propi que millora la qualitat i el comportament d'aquest tipus d'elements. -
