The layout of Passeig de St Joan as an important 50m boulevard was first laid down by Ildefons Cerdà in his Eixample project, approved in 1859. The new remodelling proposal sets two basic objectives: to give priority to the pedestrian use of the boulevard and turn it into a new urban green zone extending right up to Ciutadella Park. In order to achieve these objectives the project has adopted three fundamental urban planning criteria: - To guarantee the continuity of the section along the length of the boulevard. The new section is symmetrical and extends the width of the current pavements from 12.5m to 17m, maintaining the century old trees and accompanying them with two new rows of trees. - To adapt the urban space to different uses. The 17m of pavement have been organised in such a way that 6m are allocated to a pedestrian pavement whilst the remaining 11m under the rows of trees are for recreational uses (benches, children's play areas and bar terraces). The new proposal reduces the number of traffic lanes, creates leisure zones under the trees and segregates the bicycle lane. - To promote the Passeig de St Joan as a new and sustainable urban green zone. In order to achieve this, two new rows of trees will be planted on both sides of the existing century old trees to create an area of natural shade that will accommodate the new recreational zones. The treatment of the soil with mixed pavements and the automatic watering system that uses phreatic water are key to ensuring substrata drainage that will guarantee the survival of the vegetation. With this new proposal, the Passeig de St Joan has won back its social value as an urban space that provides a variety of requested uses and functions whilst also addressing key aspects of biodiversity and sustainability. This street’s urban transformation has enabled us to revitalise its commercial life and recreational uses, whilst at the same time retrieving its historical value as a main boulevard that continues right up to Ciutadella Park.

The building blends seamlessly with its urban surroundings. The public space not only surrounds the building, but also merges with it, above and inside. The roof is transformed into a plaza, providing access via a pedestrian ramp under a cantilever and a staircase. The car park extends below street level and the plaza. The floor plan geometrises the irregular shape of the site. In the rear courtyard, an interior street connects the two ends of the building. Access to the dwellings is organised on the three floors from an interior walkway. This ensures cross ventilation in the dwellings, without the need for interior courtyards. On the façade, the slatted gallery forms a unified, dynamic and changing skin, providing visual and solar protection. From the inflection of the west façade onwards, the enclosure is resolved by means of prefabricated panels. On the courtyard façade, a system of glass panels allows for control of the views and leaves the interior corridor open and ventilated.

The remodeling proposal for the Passeig de St. Joan has the objective of prioritising the pedestrian use of the Passeig and turning it into the new urban green corridor to the Ciutadella park. The new boulevard section is symmetrical and widens the original sidewalks from 12.5 to 17m wide, maintaining the existing hundred-year-old trees and accompanying them with a new system of native trees and shrubs. With this intervention, the Passeig de St. Joan has regained its social value as an urban space, while at the same time incorporating key aspects of biodiversity and sustainability.

This project has two fundamental objectives: firstly, to recover and integrate the urban spaces around the França Railway Station and the old Baluard del Migdia, and, secondly, to connect two central neighbourhoods, historically disconnected in this point: the Ribera and the Barceloneta districts. The new public spaces, next to the buildings built in recent years, will offer the possibility to stroll around the area and will highlight the architectural heritage of the city with the recovery of the old Baluard del Migdia. The existence of the archaeological structures of the old Baluard del Migdia (16th century), the Muralla del Mar wall and the Contraescarpa from the beginning of the 18th century, shape a new urban setting. The project collects and solves the surroundings of the old bastion, creating a balcony and a restricted access ramp for specific visits. Archaeological finds have made it possible to find out that the sea reached this point in the 3rd century and that it was suitable for navigation until the 15th century, period in which a breakwater was built. The land gained ground and the Baluard del Migdia and the maritime fortification were built between the 16th and 19th century. The action carried out recovers the archaeological complex of the old sea front, showing the lower level of the original moat between the walls and generating at the same time, a perimeter urban space of the upper level that allows this heritage context to be visualised. The area that borders the old França Railway Station, occupied until then by a parking area, is transformed into a public space for pedestrians, open and accessible, that now allows to connect with the Barceloneta neighbourhood and that incorporates an extensive strolling area under new vegetation.

Quatre parelles d´amics s´uneixen en un projecte en comú per construir a Barcelona un edifici de cinc habitatges amb espais comunitaris de relació i convivència. Es tracta d'una iniciativa privada que té com a premisses bàsiques crear noves maneres d'habitar, amb una clara aposta per la qualitat arquitectònica, el disseny passiu i la sostenibilitat. El projecte parteix de 7 valors fonamentals: _l'autopromoció, com a mecanisme de gestió que permetrà proposar un model alternatiu d'habitatge comunitari, en què els promotors de l'edifici són els seus propis usuaris. _el consens del programa funcional entre els veïns, acordant decisions clau sobre la manera de viure i cohabitar. _compartir espais comunitaris per a tots els usuaris, dissenyant espais compartits com el vestíbul-pati d'accés a p. baixa, la bugaderia a p. soterrani i la terrassa a coberta. _el compromís energètic, prioritzant l'ús de l'arquitectura passiva per millorar el confort tèrmic, i incorporant energies renovables (aerotèrmia) permeten reduir el consum energètic (classificació energètica A) _revaloritzar l'arquitectura i el context urbà aplicant solucions constructives pròpies del lloc. El sistema de persianes de fusta, plegables i orientables que tanquen les terrasses i les gelosies ceràmiques de les façanes proposen un nou llenguatge arquitectònic a partir de la relectura de materials i sistemes constructius propis de l'entorn _apostar per la sostenibilitat amb l'ús de materials propers, reciclables i certificats. _l'autogestió del projecte per a l'optimització econòmica del pressupost. El control directe de costos permet acotar el pressupost final.

El projecte de remodelació de les Rambles té com a objectius principals recuperar aquest eix cívic‐cultural, vertebrador mar‐muntanya, millorar la transversalitat Gòtic‐Raval, racionalitzar els diferents fluxes i usos urbans, i fomentar un espai púlbic de qualitat i multifuncional. Actualment es troba executat l’àmbit 1 corresponent a l’entorn Colon‐Drassanes. La morfologia d’aquest tram és clarament diferent a la resta de l’eix, donat que aquí les Rambles s’obren cap al Moll de la fusta, Colon i Drassanes. Un dels greus problemes d’aquest àmbit, abans de la intervenció era la manca de continuïtat de l’eix Rambles cap a Colon, degut a la interferència d’un vial intermig, i la segregació i fragmentació d’espais a costat Raval i Gòtic. Per això la nova intervenció reconfigura aquest entorn urbà, creant dues noves zones verdes a banda i banda, posant en valor el patrimoni arquitectònic, concentrant la mobilitat en la rotonda Colon, creant espais multifuncionals, reconfigurant el vial d’accés a Drassanes i introduïnt un doble carril bici. La nova intervenció millora substancialment la relació de l’eix Rambles amb el monument a Colon i el mar; eliminant el vial existent i els diferents parterres segregats, creant un recorregut qualificat paisatgísticament. Ara, el recorregut central de l’eix Rambles s’obra física i visualment a Colon, i a les dues noves zones verdes creades a costat Gòtic i Raval. Es posa en valor el context urbà i confort de Colon, Drassanes i carrer Ample; millorant l’accessibilitat i mobilitat de l’entorn, donant major protagonisme al conjunt arquitectònic del Museu Marítim (BCIN) i l’edifici Canons (BCIL). També s’enfatitza l’antiga porta d’entrada a la ciutat a peu de muralla al c. Ample, amb un tractament especial del paviment, un especejament bicolor (granit‐pòrfid) i gual al resta de portes de la ciutat al llarg de l’eix. El nou paisatge urbà és clar i armònic en el seu conjunt Les noves zones verdes s’han dissenyat preservant l’arbrat existent (palmeres, phitocala, tipuanes, alzines,plataners,....) i integrant un sistema arbustiu i arbori biodivers. El nou sistema vegetal, actúa com a refugi climàtic natural, creant un entorn confortable. S’integren SUDS en els nous parterres, s’incorpora sol estructurant entorn al nou arbrat, s’augmenten les superfícies drenants amb nous parterres per assegurar la màxima infiltració al subsòl i s’integra la xarxa freàtica, pel reg i neteja urbana. Es milloren les condicions de l’arbrat existent, amb un nou escocell de major tamany que millora les condicions d’oxigenació i aireació a peu d’arbre. El conjunt s’ha dissenyat integrant en el seu sistema constructiu criteris de sostenibilitat i eficiencia.
