About

In this first stage, the catalogue focuses on the modern and contemporary architecture designed and built between 1832 –year of construction of the first industrial chimney in Barcelona that we establish as the beginning of modernity– until today.

The project is born to make the architecture more accessible both to professionals and to the citizens through a website that is going to be updated and extended. Contemporary works of greater general interest will be incorporated, always with a necessary historical perspective, while gradually adding works from our past, with the ambitious objective of understanding a greater documented period.

The collection feeds from multiple sources, mainly from the generosity of architectural and photographic studios, as well as the large amount of excellent historical and reference editorial projects, such as architectural guides, magazines, monographs and other publications. It also takes into consideration all the reference sources from the various branches and associated entities with the COAC and other collaborating entities related to the architectural and design fields, in its maximum spectrum.

Special mention should be made of the incorporation of vast documentation from the COAC Historical Archive which, thanks to its documental richness, provides a large amount of valuable –and in some cases unpublished– graphic documentation.

The rigour and criteria for selection of the works has been stablished by a Documental Commission, formed by the COAC’s Culture Spokesperson, the director of the COAC Historical Archive, the directors of the COAC Digital Archive, and professionals and other external experts from all the territorial sections that look after to offer a transversal view of the current and past architectural landscape around the territory.

The determination of this project is to become the largest digital collection about Catalan architecture; a key tool of exemplar information and documentation about architecture, which turns into a local and international referent, for the way to explain and show the architectural heritage of a territory.

Memory

La composició de la casa adopta una forma peculiar com a resposta als condicionants del lloc: un petit terreny a la frontera entre una urbanització i el centre del nucli urbà, amb un pendent de 40 graus. Tres murs segueixen fidelment les corbes de nivell, formant dues crugies que organitzen tota la casa: la sala d’estar, la cuina i el menjador a dalt, amb esplèndides vistes sobre Sant Pere de Roda, i els dormitoris a la planta inferior, amb accés directe a l’exterior, on es troba la piscina. La casa segueix retòricament en tots els punts el plantejament inicial: els murs, que es poden foradar amb llibertat segons els requeriments de les circulacions, se separen de l’alineació de les finestres allí on la traça inicial ho exigeix. Des de la llunyania, el coronament dels murs portants sobresurt per damunt de la densa pineda que envolta la casa i reprodueix en termes arquitectònics les traces de la topografia preexistent.

El Port de la Selva és una petita població de la Costa Brava al nord del Cap de Creus, on els Pirineus arriben al mar. La badia del Port de la Selva s’obre cap al mar en direcció nord i, conseqüentment, es troba exposada als forts vents de tramuntana i mestral. El cor de la vila es situa al costat est de la badia, orientat cap a l’oest. Aquesta orientació oest és única entre les ciutats i pobles de la Costa Brava, i ofereix al paisatge una llum i color especials.

El terrenys sobre el qual s’assenta la casa es troba en el límit entre una petita promoció de cases privades i el centra de la vila, enmig d’una pineda mediterrània. El terreny té una pendent del 40% i els accessos a la casa provenen del carrer que delimita la part superior de la parcel·la i d’uns graons públics pel costat nord.

La casa és una segona residència per una família de sis. La sala d’estar, el menjador i la cuina estan situats a la zona superior, des d’on es contemplen les millors vistes de la badia i del monestir de Sant Pere de Roda. Els dormitoris i la piscina es troben a la zona inferior. La plataforma que serveix de pàrquing i d’entrada a l’edifici és l’únic element construït al nivell del carrer, doncs les ordenances municipals no permeten una nova construcció projectada per sobre d’aquest.

Tres parets paral·leles a les corbes pròpies de la topografia ordenen el terrenys i creen els diferents espais de la casa. Les habitacions interiors són d’àrea reduïda i cada una disposa del seu corresponent espai exterior que es cenyeix a les seves dimensions, establint una relació directa entre interior i exterior. Les parets, amb les seves prolongacions, acompanyen la transició des de l’interior a l’exterior. Questa relació s’exemplifica amb la piscina, considerada un objecte més de la cas que del jardí, un element directament relacionat amb els dormitoris, especialment amb el principal.
