About
In this first stage, the catalogue focuses on the modern and contemporary architecture designed and built between 1832 –year of construction of the first industrial chimney in Barcelona that we establish as the beginning of modernity– until today.
The project is born to make the architecture more accessible both to professionals and to the citizens through a website that is going to be updated and extended. Contemporary works of greater general interest will be incorporated, always with a necessary historical perspective, while gradually adding works from our past, with the ambitious objective of understanding a greater documented period.
The collection feeds from multiple sources, mainly from the generosity of architectural and photographic studios, as well as the large amount of excellent historical and reference editorial projects, such as architectural guides, magazines, monographs and other publications. It also takes into consideration all the reference sources from the various branches and associated entities with the COAC and other collaborating entities related to the architectural and design fields, in its maximum spectrum.
Special mention should be made of the incorporation of vast documentation from the COAC Historical Archive which, thanks to its documental richness, provides a large amount of valuable –and in some cases unpublished– graphic documentation.
The rigour and criteria for selection of the works has been stablished by a Documental Commission, formed by the COAC’s Culture Spokesperson, the director of the COAC Historical Archive, the directors of the COAC Digital Archive, and professionals and other external experts from all the territorial sections that look after to offer a transversal view of the current and past architectural landscape around the territory.
The determination of this project is to become the largest digital collection about Catalan architecture; a key tool of exemplar information and documentation about architecture, which turns into a local and international referent, for the way to explain and show the architectural heritage of a territory.

Per formalitzar l'atmosfera col.loquial de la invitació, s'ha construït un diàleg de tensió espaial entre una ocupació molt definida de la pista amb una catifa de catifes i una barreja de tres nivells d'il·luminació recalçats en l'equilibri entre la intensitat-temperatura-color de la llum i el seu reflex en els plans horitzontals blancs de les catifes i les taules. La combinació entre la llum indirecte de la cúpula del Palau, matitzada pel sistema de regulació, la focal, filtrada i dirigida exclusivament als buffets i els grups d'espelmes, ens ha permès resoldre el compromís per compatibilitzar un espai per al recolliment ambiental de la tertúlia i un espai de grans dimensions, obert i dens, de proporcions monumentals, funcionalment, per cobrir un gran pavelló esportiu, però també per admirar i descobrir.
El rectangle de la gran catifa dibuixa l'ocupació espaia! del Palau, situa l'espai col·loquial, ajuda a equilibrar la densitat arquitectònica de l'entorn visual i emmarca l'ambientació dels espais més recollits en que està subdividida, però sobretot acosta les proporcions de cada zona-grup-taula a una escala progressivament més comfortable i domèstica, sense rebaixar les admirables referències arquitectòniques de la cúpula que cobreix l'espai del Palau. D'altra banda, la simplicitat i contundència del signe + del Canal Plus, conjuntament amb el "patchwork" geomètric de les cartes d'ajust de T.V. ens ha permès construir un argument compositiu obert per emmarcar el programa funcional i jugar amb un repertori formal des de l'abstracció simbòlica, la reinterpretació geomètrica o l'ironia, i a la vegada identificar la imatge cromàtica i formal del canal, prescindint del tòpic usual del logotip. Els ingredients ambientals que completen els aspectes més domèstics de la presentació són els motius florals, coronant les espelmes, els rituals de les hostesses i cambrers d'etiqueta i l'acompanyament del quintet de música, combinat amb les imatges dels "videowall" que discretament marquen el "timing" de la presentació-invitació d'intercanvis de Canal+ a Barcelona.

The final project is the result of a series of successive transformations, motivated by a change of location and various interpretations of the program. The original site, the Montjuïc landfill, opted for a compact solution in order to minimise the problem of the foundations. The change of location meant an extension of the track with a new 200-metre indoor athletics track. It also led to a change in the roofing solution, which was originally supposed to be corrugated sheet. The new roof consists of a central vault which is 136 metres long by 110 metres wide, mounted on the ground and raised 45 metres high by means of the Panto-Dome system. It is a space mesh consisting of 4,000 cylindrical bars and 500 spherical knots where the tubes are inserted. The solution of a compact body was maintained with the removal of the heating chamber. The third important innovation is the air conditioning system. To obtain calories, a system of pumps and exchangers is chosen, while cooling combines the use of outside winds and the mobilisation of cold air through a duct system, which produces an effect similar to that of a breeze. -
