About

In this first stage, the catalogue focuses on the modern and contemporary architecture designed and built between 1832 –year of construction of the first industrial chimney in Barcelona that we establish as the beginning of modernity– until today.

The project is born to make the architecture more accessible both to professionals and to the citizens through a website that is going to be updated and extended. Contemporary works of greater general interest will be incorporated, always with a necessary historical perspective, while gradually adding works from our past, with the ambitious objective of understanding a greater documented period.

The collection feeds from multiple sources, mainly from the generosity of architectural and photographic studios, as well as the large amount of excellent historical and reference editorial projects, such as architectural guides, magazines, monographs and other publications. It also takes into consideration all the reference sources from the various branches and associated entities with the COAC and other collaborating entities related to the architectural and design fields, in its maximum spectrum.

Special mention should be made of the incorporation of vast documentation from the COAC Historical Archive which, thanks to its documental richness, provides a large amount of valuable –and in some cases unpublished– graphic documentation.

The rigour and criteria for selection of the works has been stablished by a Documental Commission, formed by the COAC’s Culture Spokesperson, the director of the COAC Historical Archive, the directors of the COAC Digital Archive, and professionals and other external experts from all the territorial sections that look after to offer a transversal view of the current and past architectural landscape around the territory.

The determination of this project is to become the largest digital collection about Catalan architecture; a key tool of exemplar information and documentation about architecture, which turns into a local and international referent, for the way to explain and show the architectural heritage of a territory.

Memory

L’habitatge se situa en una urbanització de primeres residències, i ha estat pensat per a dos estadants. La casa ocupa una sola planta, si bé clarament elevada respecte del terreny. Una rampa de doble tram connecta la planta principal, una planta intermèdia i la coberta, que fa alhora de solàrium i mirador sobre les vistes llunyanes al mar de Salou i a la silueta de la ciutat de Reus. La casa rep la llum solar a través d’una claraboia d’1 x 5 metres, que fa d’eixida cap a la coberta. Les obertures de la planta baixa es fan ressò d’alguns elements significatius de l’entorn immediat: una tanca publicitària, un bosc veí o una construcció desagradable. Així, l’habitatge es tanca al carrer i al vent de mestral, i busca la seva extensió espacial i visual en sentit vertical, proposant la vida a la casa com un flux ascendent, un sentit que també s’aplica als elements tècnics i als conductes de condicionament.

És possible una transposició d’un text poètic cap a l’Arquitectura? Més enllà de buscar els suggeriments d’un text poètic, classificar-los, i representar-los arquitectònicament, hem intentat mitjançant la capacitat d’abstracció estructurar un nou marc de referència on projectar. Hem agafat en préstec estructures de composició del món literari, i ens hem adonat que si l’arquitectura es comporta tal i com ho faria un text, pot explicar moltes coses.

El Tema Genèric d’una obra d’art és el sentiment o la ideologia que es troba al seu rerefons i la sosté. El tema específic, és l’incident, el gest, aquell sentiment o aquella ideologia que es concreta en la forma.

Així, vàrem començar a buscar un text i ens va motivar profundament el primer vers de “In Memoriam”, on un infant de 14 anys, el mateix autor, busca la felicitat malgrat la por d’un entorn desfavorable: la guerra civil del 36. És el relat de les pors d’enfrontar-se amb la vida.

Per nosaltres la Idea Genèrica és, doncs, buscar la felicitat. I la forma que pren la Idea Específica, seria la construcció d’un entorn immediat de seguretat, la forma de l’espai per ser feliç a través d’un avellaner. Morfològicament, l’avellaner està format per una multiplicitat de petits troncs esvelts, que encerclen un cert espai, que permet a un infant col·locar-se dins. Aquesta serà la forma que prendrà l’espai.

Aquesta imatge d’un lloc “segur”, amb llum tamisada per tots cantons, i un terraplè, net, molt a prop del punt de vista de l’observador, un infant, ens va atrapar. Ens permetria crear un entorn per ser feliços i viure molt a pesar de l’entorn. L’observació d’aquest sota arbrat, en part ens oculta la realitat però ens refereix directament amb un entorn una mica idealitzat però molt més ampli, més cruel i més intens del que pot arribar a ser la mateixa realitat.
