About

In this first stage, the catalogue focuses on the modern and contemporary architecture designed and built between 1832 –year of construction of the first industrial chimney in Barcelona that we establish as the beginning of modernity– until today.

The project is born to make the architecture more accessible both to professionals and to the citizens through a website that is going to be updated and extended. Contemporary works of greater general interest will be incorporated, always with a necessary historical perspective, while gradually adding works from our past, with the ambitious objective of understanding a greater documented period.

The collection feeds from multiple sources, mainly from the generosity of architectural and photographic studios, as well as the large amount of excellent historical and reference editorial projects, such as architectural guides, magazines, monographs and other publications. It also takes into consideration all the reference sources from the various branches and associated entities with the COAC and other collaborating entities related to the architectural and design fields, in its maximum spectrum.

Special mention should be made of the incorporation of vast documentation from the COAC Historical Archive which, thanks to its documental richness, provides a large amount of valuable –and in some cases unpublished– graphic documentation.

The rigour and criteria for selection of the works has been stablished by a Documental Commission, formed by the COAC’s Culture Spokesperson, the director of the COAC Historical Archive, the directors of the COAC Digital Archive, and professionals and other external experts from all the territorial sections that look after to offer a transversal view of the current and past architectural landscape around the territory.

The determination of this project is to become the largest digital collection about Catalan architecture; a key tool of exemplar information and documentation about architecture, which turns into a local and international referent, for the way to explain and show the architectural heritage of a territory.

    Garatge Forné Ponsa

    De Ribot, breument alcalde en el moment de l’obra, desenvolupa una llarga professió entre la recerca i restauració del patrimoni històric i un interès racional i vibrant pels camins del moviment modern. En aquesta peça industrial, llavors encara perifèrica respecte al nucli urbà, el plantejament volumètric i el llenguatge van significar una nova avantguarda, pionera local del mur cortina. El garatge s’organitza al voltant d’una rampa helicoïdal que assoleix els diversos nivells i que articula els dos serens cossos laterals, amb façanes metàl·liques lleugeres de composició i cromatisme subtils i estudiats. Més enllà del llenguatge, s’hi aprecia un racionalisme més emparentat amb la serenor classicitzant que no pas amb la dislèxia o el dinamisme.

    Aparcament de l'Hospital Josep Trueta

    S’encara amb la imponent massa hospitalària amb prou volum per acotar-hi un àmbit propi, una plaça. Les rampes helicoïdals són l’argument per a una formació sòlida —de rajol, com l’hospital—, d’un programa que, d’altra banda, en faria prou amb forjats i baranes. El cos d’edifici ofereix l’ambigua transparència nocturna i l’opacitat diürna del seu dinamisme interior, i la ventilació i la il·luminació naturals n’esdevenen tema principal. L’hospital, obert el 1956, és una fita discutida del paisatge periurbà, seguidor de prototips dels anys cinquanta, i ampliat fins a assolir una organicitat estimable. Els canvis tecnològics i problemes funcionals han dut a plantejar una substitució quasi in situ (concurs 2006, MAP Arquitectes).

    New building of 7,043 m2 and 54 metres facing the Rambla, one of the most important and active streets, located in the heart of Barcelona's Ciutat Vella district. In the planning approach, the relationship of the building with the architectural environment and the design of façades that integrate correctly into the complex, but which determine a new level of quality, have been taken into account. The building is intended for tertiary uses: commercial premises, offices and parking for 800 cars, one of the first examples of robotic parking of this size in the whole world.

    El projecte consisteix en la construcció de dues plantes d'aparcament subterrànies a l'àrea de l'estació central de Girona. L'excavació permet definir un espai públic per als usuaris del tren i dels mateixos veïns. Aquesta superfície que cobreix el gran buit previ disposa de talls pels quals la llum arriba als espais inferiors i els transforma. El mateix relleu dels lluernaris es transforma en l'espai exterior públic, en un espai de joc i de descans.
