The temporary building is part of the temporary urbanisation of Les Glòries Square. It is a pedestrian shade-house, its program is an information space, an exhibition area and a bicycle rental point. The ephemeral condition of the temporary building, which can be dismantled and reused, determines the choice of the structural system: a scaffolding capable of minimising its footprint in the territory and a materiality according to the context of the works. The linear piece consists of a triple envelope: a waterproof and translucent polycarbonate skin, a shading mesh and a protective metal mesh. The overlap of the three blurs the outline of the building-passage to blend in with the environment, being permeable to step, gaze and air. During the day, depending on the position of the sun, transparencies, shadows and reflections achieve a changing perception of the building from both inside and outside.

On an interurban scale, the project seeks to enhance the continuity of the green axis that joins different parks and squares. On a local scale, the aim is to articulate the routes that converge on the site and create a children's play area. The proposal connects the pre-existing pedestrian crossings, looking for the shortest route with sufficient development to achieve practicable slopes without architectural barriers. The topography is modified to generate two dunes of grass, carpeted and bushy, that isolate them from traffic and a gentle depression that limits children's games. The topographic jump is used as a bench and removes the fences that separate children from adults, without giving up the feeling of protection. The yellow rubber dune and the bench turn the topography into a game and suggest to the child a limit of action. The games are collective to enhance participation over individual play, and transparent to facilitate the adult's visual control in distance.

The priority of the project is to make the differentiated operation of the spaces of the building and their fit in the particular urban volume of the environment compatible. In a broad view of the territory, the relevance of the plot to 22@ requires the construction of a building for the 21st century Barcelona, in an area of the city that changes the traditional volume of the Eixample. In a closer look, the building will be part of an attic in which the formal prominence of the Agbar tower is imposed and the presence of two more buildings, the volumes of which, as in the neighbouring attic, are not continued on the Diagonal Avenue’s façade and are presented as detached buildings oriented on the sea-mountain axis. From a functional point of view, the building must assume the programmatic complexity, through a unitary building and accommodate three entities of different consideration (primary medical centre, social centre and sheltered housing), where the public or private character are issues to consider. We propose a unitary building, a mixture of different volumes. A two-storey plinth supported on the streets of Ciutat de Granada and Bolívia, contains the outbuildings for the primary medical centre and the social centre, and at the same time will support the three volumes for housing. Its distribution in the form of a fan is essential to solve the sun of the houses and to understand and complete the plot. Thus, the new building, despite its smaller size, is not only able to "rebalance" the prominence of the Agbar tower within the plot, but, through the sequence of voids and full, manages to establish a dialogue with the buildings of the neighbouring plot. The order of the façade continues to disappear, and a volumetric "new order" is imposed, permeable between the street and the interior of the block.

The block consists of five aggregation units, four of which have two dwellings per landing. The fifth aggregation unit of the front wall is made up of three houses per floor, to orient the rooms to the south and form a façade, instead of a front wall. The double-orientation house orients the day area to the views of the Besòs and the planned adjoining park, while the rooms are oriented to a more domestic street belonging to the new Bon Pastor planning. The arrangement of the bathroom nucleus in the centre of the ground plan allows circulation to be articulated around it, which not only makes the house appear larger, but also allows alternative paths. Thus, it is possible to reach the kitchen without going through the living room. The free-standing central piece allows a certain permeability of the ground plan, both to the air from cross ventilation and to the gaze, so that the nighttime and daytime areas are more interrelated with long views that cross the house from façade to façade. That same central position allows the typology on the ground floor to be symmetrical so that the living rooms are oriented, seeking privacy, towards the patios that the planning provides on the west façade. The double circulation loops are not only activated around the bathroom but also through the rooms. A pass-through terrace shared by the three rooms lengthens the walk through the house, minimising airtight spaces. The use of exposed brick, as a materiality determined by the planning, is an opportunity to introduce lattices that allow texturing the base of the building and naturally ventilate the parking lot and the stairs. On the ground floor, a chamber unfolds the enclosing wall of the patios and the façade of the rooms, where it alternates with a terrace that allows not only the natural ventilation of the parking lot, but also generates privacy, as a filter between the street and the house. The metal balcony system offers a support structure capable of incorporating metal meshes that allow the growth of vegetation such as sunscreen, clothes lines and textiles.

The building is organized around a courtyard that links a sequence of intermediate spaces. On the ground floor, a portico open to the city anticipates the doorway of the building and filters the relationship between public space and the communal courtyard that acts as a small plaza for the community. Instead of entering each of the building’s hallways directly and independently from the outer façade, the four communication shafts are located in the four corners of the courtyard, so that all the inhabitants come together and meet in the courtyardplaza. On the typical floor, access to the dwellings is via the private terraces that make up the ring of outdoor spaces overlooking the courtyard. The building’s general floor plan is organized by means of a layout of communicating rooms. There are 114 spaces per floor, 543 in the building, of similar dimensions, that eliminate private and communal passageways to make full use of the surface area. The server spaces are arranged in the central ring while the rest of the rooms, of undifferentiated uses and size, approximate 13 m2, run along the façade, presenting themselves to different forms of occupation. Another terrace in the outer ring completes the spatial sequence, the row of spaces interconnected by large openings, permeable to air, sight and movement. The 85 dwellings are distributed in four groupings, with a total of 18 units per floor. Four or five homes are laid out around each nucleus, so that all typologies have cross ventilation and dual orientation. The homes consist of five or six modules, depending on whether they have two or three bedrooms. The inclusive, open-plan kitchen is located in the central room, acting as a distributor that replaces passages, while making domestic work visible and avoiding fixed gender roles. The size of the rooms, in addition to offering flexibility based on ambiguity of use and functional indeterminacy, allows an optimal structural space for the wooden structure. As this is social housing, to ensure economic viability the volume of wood required has been optimized to 0.24 m3 per square metre of built area.
