About
In this first stage, the catalogue focuses on the modern and contemporary architecture designed and built between 1832 –year of construction of the first industrial chimney in Barcelona that we establish as the beginning of modernity– until today.
The project is born to make the architecture more accessible both to professionals and to the citizens through a website that is going to be updated and extended. Contemporary works of greater general interest will be incorporated, always with a necessary historical perspective, while gradually adding works from our past, with the ambitious objective of understanding a greater documented period.
The collection feeds from multiple sources, mainly from the generosity of architectural and photographic studios, as well as the large amount of excellent historical and reference editorial projects, such as architectural guides, magazines, monographs and other publications. It also takes into consideration all the reference sources from the various branches and associated entities with the COAC and other collaborating entities related to the architectural and design fields, in its maximum spectrum.
Special mention should be made of the incorporation of vast documentation from the COAC Historical Archive which, thanks to its documental richness, provides a large amount of valuable –and in some cases unpublished– graphic documentation.
The rigour and criteria for selection of the works has been stablished by a Documental Commission, formed by the COAC’s Culture Spokesperson, the director of the COAC Historical Archive, the directors of the COAC Digital Archive, and professionals and other external experts from all the territorial sections that look after to offer a transversal view of the current and past architectural landscape around the territory.
The determination of this project is to become the largest digital collection about Catalan architecture; a key tool of exemplar information and documentation about architecture, which turns into a local and international referent, for the way to explain and show the architectural heritage of a territory.

L’edifici se situa en un solar romanent d’una illa de cases, darrere de les façanes posteriors d’uns edificis d’habitatges d’alçària mitjana. El plantejament del projecte es basa en la creació d’una volumetria que doni una resposta adequada a aquestes difícils condicions. Tot el programa de la nova seu del COAATC queda recolzat en un gran basament elevat respecte del carrer, que afavoreix la col·locació de l’aparcament a sota. La planta baixa allotja l’entrada i la sala d’actes, i fa mitgera amb el fons del solar en dos costats, deixant un petit pati de ventilació entre ells. Les dues plantes superiors queden encavallades sobre l’entrada, de manera que poden ser exemptes i respirar als quatre vents. La dislocació entre el volum de la planta baixa i el cos superior dóna lloc al porxo d’entrada, enfrontat a l’escalinata que puja al gran sòcol.
Es tractava de resoldre un edifici públic, però de dimensions molt reduïdes, que s’ubica en un solar inicialment destinat a habitatge unifamiliar, amb normativa de ciutat jardí. El terreny, a més, es troba en la frontera de dos models de ciutat trobant-se en contacte amb les darreres d’enormes edificacions de 10 plantes d’alçada que el releguen al solar com un recinte a l'ombra permanent.
L’edifici es fixa a la línia de tangència, donant l’esquena a l’enorme massa construïda amb la que és impossible establir qualsevol tipus de relació. Ni les ordenançes de la zona, ni el programa para ubicar el col.legi d’Aparelladors tenien suficient entitat per plantejar una transiciónó volumètrica adequada. L’opció va ser aixecar 2 metres la planta baixa respecte la cota del terreny y plantejar un rectangle recrescut de dos plantes adossades en mitjanera amb la façana posterior. L’envolvent proposta es formalitza a través de l’ús de cossos de volumetria senzilla, maclats i formant una composició volumètrica elemental, la qual organitza i endreça l’espai sobrant exterior així com el porxo que serveix d’entrada.
L’escassa dimensió de l'única façana va aconsellar emplaçar lateralment el cos principal de l’edifici prolongant el recorregut d’entrada. L’acumulació de l’espai lliure entorn a l’àmbit tangencial, que serveix d’accés, crea el marc del porxo. El tractament de l’última planta, així com la disposició de forats permet clarificar la condició pública de l’edifici.
