In this first stage, the catalogue focuses on the modern and contemporary architecture designed and built between 1832 –year of construction of the first industrial chimney in Barcelona that we establish as the beginning of modernity– until today.
The project is born to make the architecture more accessible both to professionals and to the citizens through a website that is going to be updated and extended. Contemporary works of greater general interest will be incorporated, always with a necessary historical perspective, while gradually adding works from our past, with the ambitious objective of understanding a greater documented period.
The collection feeds from multiple sources, mainly from the generosity of architectural and photographic studios, as well as the large amount of excellent historical and reference editorial projects, such as architectural guides, magazines, monographs and other publications. It also takes into consideration all the reference sources from the various branches and associated entities with the COAC and other collaborating entities related to the architectural and design fields, in its maximum spectrum.
Special mention should be made of the incorporation of vast documentation from the COAC Historical Archive which, thanks to its documental richness, provides a large amount of valuable –and in some cases unpublished– graphic documentation.
The rigour and criteria for selection of the works has been stablished by a Documental Commission, formed by the COAC’s Culture Spokesperson, the director of the COAC Historical Archive, the directors of the COAC Digital Archive, and professionals and other external experts from all the territorial sections that look after to offer a transversal view of the current and past architectural landscape around the territory.
The determination of this project is to become the largest digital collection about Catalan architecture; a key tool of exemplar information and documentation about architecture, which turns into a local and international referent, for the way to explain and show the architectural heritage of a territory.

DATAAE és un estudi d’arquitectura i paisatge, fundat l’any 2000, que investiga per donar una resposta arquitectònica lluny de subjectivismes, basada en un treball cooperatiu per interpretar les demandes inicials i convertir-les en estratègies de projecte, per tal d’aconseguir una arquitectura necessària i adaptada a les condicions mediambientals.
Fundat el 2000 per Claudi Aguiló (arquitecte) i Albert Domingo (enginyer industrial). Han guanyat diversos concursos d'arquitectura i paisatge. Entre altres premis han obtingut el Premi FAD 2017 (“Ciutat i Paisatge”), el FAD d'Opinió 2007 i 2015, finalista FAD 2009 i 2013, Catalunya Construcció 2015, Archmarathon 2014, finalista Bienal Española de Arquitectura y Urbanismo 2016 i 2013, AJAC 2012, Sacyr Innovación 2012, SAIE Awards 2011, selecció JAE 2008.

Given the small dimensions of the site, the main objective of the project is the design of a compact construction, which reduces the potential volumetry of the large surface area equipment and which encompasses, in a single form, the diversity of the program (pools + competition pool with stands + fitness rooms + changing rooms + bar + beauty areas + administration). At the same time and using contemporary construction systems, the exterior expresses, through a repeated window, the variability of its interior. The project wanders and recreates itself between uniqueness and variability. -

An organisation of the program is proposed by centralising the less private dependencies of the house on the first floor by introducing a ventilated patio-terrace, which allows the living room to face south and at the same time illuminate the lower floor where an outdoor parking, a multipurpose space and the bedrooms. On the second floor, the master bedroom is located as a suite. Construction: vertical steel structure with joints welded in the workshop and assembled and bolted on site, with wooden ceilings with microlaminated beams and Kerto-type plywood boards. External ceramic enclosure with plastered and painted finish, with a protection of ventilated wooden slats on the faces exposed to direct solar radiation. The non-passable roofs are landscaped with low-maintenance plants and the passable ones are with ventilated wooden slats. -

The project adopts the dominant urban typology in the immediate environment, which is characterised by being located close to the boundary of the plot facing the street and by exhausting the building width in order to compact the building and maximise the rear garden. In this way, the height at which the building is located is used to enjoy the views of the horizon and to house in the garden a swimming pool related to the more extroverted life of its inhabitants. Simultaneously, the project introduces a courtyard in the two-storey building, which on the ground floor is closed on its four sides and on the first floor is an open U facing south. This yard operates as follows: - Eliminates the house-garden dichotomy, introducing a space in between that de-densifies the interior space and prolongs the experience of the house. - Introduces light and ventilation in the central part of the building. - Solves privacy problems by creating an intimate space protected from neighbouring views. - It allows the building to be semi-buried since the side façades of the house can be blind to contain soil and therefore follow the current levels and to avoid the need to open windows towards the neighbouring façades. - It allows the building to be semi-buried since the side façades of the house can be blind to contain soil and therefore follow the current levels and to avoid the need to open windows towards the neighbouring façades. -

The park is structured through two types of routes: those responsible for direct connectivity between the city and the park and those that organise the routes through the landscape, linking the different seating areas to reach the most significant points. The diversity of routes can also be explained by the diversity of materials that make them up. Each type of pavement corresponds to a different route with a different function within the intervention. Urban connectivity routes are made with materials of mineral origin. The new housing for university students is located on the same block as the Vallès School of Architecture. The proposal aims to maintain the balance between existing buildings, outdoor spaces and the new student residence. It consists of two blocks of ground floor and a floor above which are parallel to the street, with a large central atrium. The program makes it possible to imagine intense cohabitation between users, both on an individual level, thanks to the interior flexibility of the homes, and on a collective level, thanks to the use of the atrium as a space for social events. The project opts for an industrialised construction through a single prefabricated concrete housing module with a minimum of fixed elements. All modules and finishes are removable and recyclable, or reusable. The building is divided into two floors to take advantage of the existing topography, making the access possible without the need for an elevator and reducing the surface area of walkways and stairs.Guàrdia Urbana Police Barracks

The project consists of the refurbishment and extension of an existing barracks located in the old Mental Institute of the Holy Cross (1886-1910). Due to the heritage interest of the building, the project rehabilitates the space on the ground floor and proposes a programmatic extension through an underground building in the outer courtyard. Despite the burial, the old hexagonal autopsy room in the centre of the courtyard is preserved for heritage reasons. The underground reduces the visual impact that would involve a conventional programmatic extension occupying the space of the outer courtyard with a new building and gives the new square a condition of public space.ICTA-ICP Research Centre of the UAB

The ICTA-ICP building located on the UAB (Autonomous University of Barcelona) campus is a research centre in environmental sciences and paleontology. Consistent with their fields of research, the building's users bet on an ambitious response to sustainability challenges. The building, an isolated volume of five floors of 40x40m and two basements, accommodates the following uses. On the ground floor: lobby, bar, classrooms and administration; on the following 3 floors, offices and laboratories; on the deck, greenhouses and rest areas; in the semi-basement, parking and machine rooms; and in the basement, warehouses and the rest of the laboratories. Both offices and laboratories are uses with a lot of internal load that tend to be hot. The ICTA-ICP has been designed to take advantage of it in winter and to dissipate it in summer. The project includes the rehabilitation of the Joan Oliver Park and two adjacent areas to improve its integration into the municipality. The rehabilitation of the park consists of two slopes and a central esplanade. The first slope has a moderate slope and has been designed as a resting area where grass has been planted. The second slope, on the opposite side, is defined as the steepest, where steps are proposed surrounded by tall shrubby plants that visually collect the central space of the park in relation to the cars on the street.Remodelling of a Terraced House Laureà Miró
It is the rehabilitation of an old and simple house in the historic centre of Sant Feliu de Llobregat which is based on the conservation of the original composition, volume and structure of the house and on the demolition of the interior walls and the staircase to carry out a new distribution that suits the needs of the owner, that improves the natural light and the energetic envelope of the building. El proyecto aprovecha la condición periurbana del terreno y la diferencia de altura de 18 m entre las calles para dividir el edificio y dotar a los tres nuevos volúmenes de galerías, introduciendo espacio verde entre ellos para mejorar sus vistas, la exposición al sol y la ventilación cruzada. Para reducir los movimientos de tierra en un terreno con varios estratos rocosos, el proyecto propone un edificio superior con un voladizo de 4,20 m que minimiza los cimientos.FAD Award

Este edificio de viviendas sociales está organizado alrededor de un espacio central en forma de atrio, el cual optimiza la eficiencia energética del conjunto y que, junto a los amplios rellanos de la escalera, ofrece espacios de encuentro entre los vecinos. El proyecto para el Institut Municipal de l'Habitatge i Rehabilitación de Barcelona (IMHAB) presenta una única tipología de pisos-patio pasantes en altura, donde todas las piezas se ubican en la fachada, con iluminación natural y vistas al entorno. Con paneles fotovoltaicos en la cubierta, las viviendas incorporan un espacio intermedio tipo terraza-galería, que permite aprovechar la ventilación cruzada y, cuando se cierra, aportar ganancias térmicas por el efecto invernadero, evitando la necesidad de calefacción. La posición de la galería se alterna: en unos pisos es el acceso y, en otros, la galería se sitúa en el extremo de la vivienda. La configuración interior dispone habitaciones versátiles de 10 metros, todas iguales, para favorecer la multifuncionalidad.FAD Award
